Stud walls or partition walls,  a great way of dividing a room and easy to erect. we say DIY it.

Before you head to your builder merchant you’ll need to have measured the length or the run of the wall you will be erecting.  Measuring for this is simple maths each stud should have 400mm centres this means from the centre of the last stud, to the next will measure 400mm this is for strength, but very important to get right because the plasterboard that will be fixed to the timbers needs to end 50-50 to support THE END of the board.

Tools needed

• Saw
• Hammer
• Nail gun (optional)
• Spirit level
• Pencil
• Saw horse or workmate
• Square
• A willing assistant with long arms
• Large-bladed filler knife

• Plasterboard
• Lengths of 100mm x 50mm sawn (un-planed) timber
• Door lining
• 100mm wire nails
• Plasterboard nails
• Jointing tape
• Sharp knife
• Jointing compound
• Plaster (optional)

If using 9mm plasterboard the studs must be spaced at maximum 400mm centres.
12mm plasterboard the studs must be at maximum 600mm centres.
